【Event Recap】The GBA Artificial Intelligence Technology Innovation Competition 2024-25

”The GBA Artificial Intelligence Technology Innovation Competition 2024-2025” , jointly organized by Trumptech and The SenseTime, has successfully concluded on June 28 at the SenseTime Headquarters in Hong Kong Science and Technology Park.

Centered on the theme "Gerontech," this year's competition attracted elite teams from schools across Hong Kong. Participants leveraged AI to develop solutions that enhance seniors' quality of life and reduce caregiver's burdens. The competition challenged students through four stages: Theme Research & Problem Identification, Solution Design, AI Product Development and Presentation. These stages comprehensively challenged and honed students’ innovative thinking, technical application and communication skills.

We were honored to have Mr. Jason Yuen , Founder and CEO of SOCIF (right) and Mr. Ka Shun, Project Manager (Curriculum Development) of Trumptech to be our esteemed judges. They meticulously evaluated each project and engaged participants in insightful Q&A sessions.  Students confidently articulated their design concepts, demonstrating exceptional problem-solving abilities.

Showcase of Outstanding AI Projects

Using the competition’s designated SenseStorm 3 AI kit, teams created elderly-focused innovations through creative programming. Highlights include:

AI Smart Medicine Box: Features voice reminders, automated pill sorting, and scheduled dispensing. Uses facial recognition to ensure correct medication intake, preventing errors and enhancing safety.

AI Companion Robotic Dog: Detects users’ emotional states to initiate interactions (e.g., conversation, storytelling), providing companionship for isolated seniors.

Nursing Home Patrol Robot: Equipped with environmental monitoring and fall-detection sensors. Automatically patrols facilities, alerts staff to emergencies, and improves resident safety.

Smart Wheelchair: Integrates front-facing cameras with object recognition to detect obstacles, automatically slowing or stopping the wheelchair to prevent collisions.

Creative Inspiration in Senesetime headquarters

Held at SenseTime’s headquarters, where students experienced cutting-edge AI technologies and robotics. They explored AI applications across healthcare, transportation, and other fields – deepening their understanding of artificial intelligence and fueling their passion for tech innovation.
